It is with great sadness that we announce the death of the band’s founder and long serving Chairman, Roy Busby, who passed away in hospital on Tuesday 15th March.
Roy was instrumental in working with the Wakefield Council Education department in 1977 to create a band which would allow the young players to progress, develop and compete against adult contesting organisations.
Roy remained actively involved in the band as a BBb bass player and Chairman until his health deteriorated, forcing him to take a more ‘back seat’ role. His interest and passion, however, never wavered and his legacy will live on for many years to come. This is truly the end of an era for the band.
Present and past members of the band participated in a short informal concert at Cedar Court Hotel after the funeral service in his honour.
